3-Day Lake Titicaca Tour from Cusco with Sky Glamping

8:00 PM — Hotel Pickup in Cusco

Your driver arrives at your Cusco hotel at approximately 8:00 p.m., holding a sign with the lead traveller's name. Pickups run across the historic centre, San Blas and San Sebastián; if your accommodation sits outside the standard zone, we will agree a nearby meeting point with you in advance.

Have a warm layer and anything you need overnight in a small daypack, because your main luggage travels in the hold and will not be accessible until Puno.

9:00 PM — Departure from Cusco Terminal Terrestre

The route south follows the same corridor as the classic Sun Route, climbing steadily out of the Cusco basin and across the altiplano. You will cross La Raya pass at 4,335 metres (14,222 feet) while asleep. It is the highest point of the journey, and the watershed that divides the Amazon basin from the basin of Lake Titicaca.

Seats are semicama or cama class depending on availability, reclining to between 140° and 160°, with a blanket provided. The bus is heated, and has an onboard toilet.

5:30 AM — Arrival in Puno & Breakfast

You arrive into Puno in the early morning, where our local team meets you at the terminal and transfers you to a central hotel to freshen up and take a full breakfast. Use this window deliberately: hot coca or muña tea, a slow start, and plenty of water. Puno sits at 3,827 metres and the altitude is felt more sharply by travellers who rush the first hours.

Luggage you will not need on the lake can be stored securely until your return.

LATE MORNING — Boat Transfer onto Lake Titicaca

From Puno's harbour you board a covered motorboat and head out through the reed channels. The change is abrupt. Within twenty minutes the city is gone and you are surrounded by totora, the tall reed that gives the Uros everything: their islands, their homes, their boats, and in its tender white base, part of their diet.

AFTERNOON —  Check In to Your Sky Dome

You settle into your glamping dome in the late afternoon, in time for the light to go. The domes are heated and insulated against the night, because temperatures on the lake fall close to freezing after dark even in the dry season. Inside there is a real bed, warm bedding, and a transparent upper shell.

Over the evening your hosts introduce the traditions of the lake: the offering to Pachamama, the way the Uros read weather from the water, and the constellations the Andean world sees in the dark spaces of the Milky Way rather than in the stars themselves. The llama, the fox, the serpent.

Then everyone goes quiet, and you lie back and look up.

SUNRISE — Morning on the Water

Dawn over Titicaca is worth setting an alarm for. The lake turns to mirrored pink before the wind picks up. Breakfast is served at the domes, after which you complete your visit of the Uros community with your guide.

MIDMORNING — Crossing to Taquile Island

The crossing to Taquile takes roughly two hours over open water. On a clear day the Cordillera Real of Bolivia is visible along the eastern horizon, its snow line floating above the lake.

MIDDAY — Taquile: Textiles, Terraces & Trout

Taquile rises steeply from the water in agricultural terraces built in the Inca era, and reaching the village square means a stepped climb of around 40 minutes at 3,950 metres. Your guide sets a deliberately slow pace, and there is no hurry.

The island governs itself communally, without police, under a rotating system of elected authorities and the Inca moral code: ama sua, ama llulla, ama qhella. Do not steal, do not lie, do not be lazy. Its knitting and weaving were recognised by UNESCO in 2005 as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. You will see men knitting as they walk, and learn to read a person's status from the hat they wear.

Lunch is prepared by a community kitchen in the main square, and is typically fresh lake trout, quinoa soup and muña tea, served looking out over the water toward Bolivia.

5:00 PM — Return to Puno

The boat returns to Puno in the late afternoon, and you are dropped at your centrally located Puno hotel. Your onward journey is yours to choose, and we are glad to arrange it.
