Cusco to Lake Titicaca is 390 kilometres of sealed road across the top of the Andes. There is no direct flight. The lake is Puno, for practical purposes, and Puno is a day away by road however you do it. That day can be a sightseeing tour, a night asleep on a coach, or seven hours in your own car. Here is how each one works, what it costs, and which one we would pick for you.
The short answer
- Distance. About 390 kilometres, over the La Raya pass at 4,335 metres. Cusco is 3,400 metres, Puno is 3,827.
- Time. Seven to eight hours in a private car, eight to nine on the night bus, ten on the day bus with its stops.
- Flights. None between Cusco and Juliaca, the airport for the lake. Flying means going through Lima, which takes a full day.
- Day trip. Not possible. Two days is the minimum, and the two day tour from Cusco is built for exactly that.

The four ways, in the order most people choose them
The day bus with five stops
The Route of the Sun leaves Cusco in the morning and stops five times on the way: the painted church at Andahuaylillas, the temple at Raqchi, a buffet lunch at Sicuani, the La Raya pass, and the museum at Pucara. A guide on board, and you are in Puno by late afternoon. Ten hours, 55 dollars with lunch. It turns the road into a day of the trip, which is why most people take it.
The night bus
Leaves Cusco at ten, arrives in Puno at about six in the morning, and you sleep through the pass. Seats recline to 160 degrees and the cabin is heated. It costs 45 dollars and it gives you a whole extra day in Cusco, or a whole first day on the lake. The trade is that you see nothing of the road. A private car, direct
A driver collects you at your Cusco hotel at the hour you choose. Seven to eight hours later you are at your Puno hotel. No stops, no guide, no terminal. It is 350 dollars for the vehicle, which takes four people with luggage. That makes most sense for families, and for anyone with a boat or a flight fixed at the other end. The two day tour from Cusco
If the lake is the reason for the journey, this is the tidy way to do it. Day one is the Route of the Sun with its five stops. Day two is the full day on the water, Uros and Taquile with lunch on the island. And the train
A tourist train runs the same corridor on set days. It is comfortable, slow and by a distance the most expensive way to make the journey. People take it when the ride is the point rather than the transfer. We do not sell it, but we will tell you honestly whether it suits your dates if you ask.

Is there a direct flight from Cusco to Lake Titicaca?
No. Juliaca airport takes flights from Lima only. From Cusco the road is the way, and it is a good day.
How far is Lake Titicaca from Cusco?

Can you visit Lake Titicaca as a day trip from Cusco?
