Your adventure begins early in the morning. We will depart from the historic city of Cusco, the former capital of the ancient Inca Empire. At 0630AM we will be meeting at a dedicated bus terminal. Here you’ll board a comfortable, air-conditioned tourist coach bound for Puno. Puno is the gateway to Lake Titicaca — the highest navigable lake in the world.

This full-day journey along the legendary Sun Route Peru (also known as Ruta del Sol) is one of the most scenic drives in South America. Stretching roughly 390 kilometers, the route passes through snow-capped Andes. It takes you through golden farmlands, and picturesque Andean towns that reflect centuries of history and culture. Andahuaylillas – The Sistine Chapel of the Andes

The first stop is the charming colonial town of Andahuaylillas. It is located 40 km from Cusco. Here you’ll visit the Church of San Pedro Apóstol. It is often called the Sistine Chapel of the Andes due to its magnificent baroque murals, gold-leaf altars, and intricate frescoes painted by Indigenous artists during the 17th century. This church is a true symbol of Peru’s fusion between Catholic and Andean beliefs.

Raqchi – Temple of Wiracocha

Continuing south, the landscape opens to vast plains surrounded by rugged hills until you reach the impressive archaeological site of Raqchi. This ancient sanctuary was built in honor of Wiracocha, the creator god of the Incas. The towering adobe walls, cylindrical storehouses, and ceremonial courtyards reveal the engineering genius of the ancient Inca civilization. After exploring Raqchi, we will arrive in Sicuani. It is a tranquil Andean town where a delicious buffet lunch awaits. Here you’ll enjoy a variety of regional dishes prepared with fresh local ingredients. You can savour everything from quinoa soup and baked trout to vegetarian options and classic Peruvian desserts. This is also a great opportunity to relax and take in the peaceful high-mountain atmosphere before continuing the journey.

La Raya – The Roof of the Journey

The route ascends to its highest point at La Raya Pass. It stands 4,335 meters (14,222 feet) above sea level. This natural frontier between Cusco and Puno offers breathtaking panoramic views of the snow-capped Andes, grazing alpacas and llamas, and traditional herders who live among these stunning peaks. Travelers often stop here to capture postcard-worthy photos and appreciate the immensity of the Andean landscape.

Pukara Museum – Pre-Inca Civilization

The final stop before reaching Puno is the Pukara Archaeological Museum, located in one of Peru’s oldest cultural centers. The famous Torito de Pukara — a small bull figurine placed on Andean rooftops for good luck — originated here and remains an enduring symbol of regional identity.

Arrival in Puno

By late afternoon (approximately 5:00 p.m.), the bus arrives in the city of Puno, nestled along the shores of Lake Titicaca. After disembarking, We will transfer you to a three star hotel within the centre of Puno. The evening is free to rest or stroll along Puno’s main street, Jirón Lima, where cozy restaurants and cafés offer local dishes and traditional Andean music.

Begin your second day with an unforgettable exploration of the legendary Lake Titicaca. It is the highest navigable lake in the world and one of Peru’s most magical destinations. After breakfast at your hotel in Puno, our local guide will pick you up around 7:00 a.m. We will transfer you to the port. Here your Lake Titicaca boat tour begins.

Step aboard a comfortable motorboat and set sail across the deep blue waters of Lake Titicaca. It is surrounded by breathtaking views of the snow-capped Andes and peaceful Andean villages dotting the shoreline. Visit to the Uros Floating Islands

Your first stop is the famous Uros Floating Islands. They are a group of man-made islands constructed entirely from totora reeds. These unique islands have been home to the Uros people for centuries. They represent one of the most fascinating living cultures in South America.

Upon arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed by the local families. They will explain how they build, maintain, and live upon these floating platforms. You’ll discover how every part of their lives — from their homes and boats to their handicrafts — is created using the reeds that grow abundantly in the lake.

Here, you’ll also have the optional opportunity to take a short ride on a traditional reed boat. It costs 15 soles per person, payable directly to the community. This gentle cruise offers a peaceful and intimate view of daily life on the floating islands. You will be surrounded by the sparkling waters of Lake Titicaca.

Exploration of Taquile Island

After you visit the Uros Islands, the journey continues for about 1.5 hours across the open waters toward Taquile Island. It is a UNESCO-recognized destination celebrated for its ancient weaving traditions and community-based lifestyle. The people of Taquile maintain their Inca-era customs through a cooperative social system and handwoven textiles that tell stories of family, identity, and tradition.

Upon arriving at the dock, you’ll begin a scenic uphill walk toward the island’s main square. Although the climb is moderate, the panoramic views of the lake in the world are advantageous. The deep blues of Lake Titicaca, contrasted with the snow-capped peaks of Bolivia’s Cordillera Real, create a sight that defines the essence of the Andes.

Once in the village, you’ll enjoy a traditional lunch prepared by local families. It typically features quinoa soup, fried trout or omelet, and herbal tea made from native Andean plants. During lunch, your guide will explain the island’s cultural structure. You will also understand its unique textile symbolism, and the deep respect the Taquileños hold for nature and community life.

Return to Puno

In the afternoon, after soaking in the views and learning about the island’s way of life, you’ll descend back to the port. Here you will board the boat for the return journey to Puno. The serene ride back across Lake Titicaca offers a perfect moment of reflection. It will allow you to appreciate the stillness and grandeur of this sacred landscape.

You’ll arrive in Puno around 5:00 p.m. This will be marking the end of your Lake Titicaca from Cusco tour. Travelers continuing their journey can arrange for an early transfer to the Juliaca Airport or extend their stay in Puno to enjoy its cultural charm and lakeside atmosphere.
